Obituary of George Edward Fitzjohn

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of George Edward Fitzjohn announce his passing on Wednesday January 24,2024 at the age of 79 years. He passed peacefully at St. Joseph Hospice in London, On. George was born in England, moved to Ireland before immigrating to Canada when he was a young boy. George is survived by his loving wife Celia (Daly) Fitzjohn of 53 years, Daughters Keri (TBA) Fitzjohn and Kim (Jimmy) Harley, Grandchildren Seamus and Dylan Harley, Tyler Snell and Stacey (Snell) Iverson, Nephew Michael (Becky) Fitzjohn and his family, Godfather to Melodie Giroux- Mclay. George had a large extended family: Barney Daly, Una (Jack) Giroux, Anne Kolterman, Bridget (Brian) Webb, and many nieces, nephew and great nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him as Uncle Turkey. A special mention to his brother from another mother, Mike DeMarco (2012) and all the DeMarco family and his neighbours Ed and Sandy, Mike and Sam.
George will be reunited with his parents George and Eileen (O'Leary) Fitzjohn, brothers Raymond and Wayne Fitzjohn, nephew Kyle Fitzjohn. His in-laws Hugh and Anne (O”Connor) Daly,  sister in law Ellen (Daly) Gifford and brothers in law Eddie Daly and Rob Gifford.

For George, life was meant to be lived and filled with the things you enjoyed. For him that was going for walks under the bridge with his wife having a coffee and watching the ships, going for drives especially after a good summer storm. Road trips were a must whether hopping in the car to visit family or friends or going on summer adventures when the kids were younger, or having good
conversation sitting around a fire to name a few. And of course he had to satiate that sweet tooth he had.George will be remembered for his love of sports playing, coaching and always watching. If he had the remote sports were always on and had a huge passion for all Detroit teams. In his younger days he was a strong athlete and heavily involved in baseball, both as a player and coach. As a SMAA coach, he helped the Midget “A” capture the provincial crown in the 1967 Centennial year. He was a bowler for many years in local leagues but from a young age you would often find George on the golf course. He was a long time member of Camlachie Golf Course and will sadly miss his golf buddies, Dan Thomas and Bob DeMarco.

We would like to thank his medical team at London Health Science Centre, His Palliative Care Team and St. Joseph Hospice in London for the care and compassion shown to him and his family.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to St. Joseph Hospice or charity of choice.
