Memories of my Grandpa have come flooding back! I remember playing poker with my uncles at the age of 8 or 9 (clearly out to take any little money I had...lol) I always grew great confidence when my grandpa came and stood behind me to add his presents and assistance :-)
Even younger I remember what I call now the great debates that happened whenever there was a gathering of adults.
I was always aware of the fact that when grandpa spoke people stopped and listened!
I loved any visit I got from my grandpa but the ones at Christmas were special for me. I always made sure I had a good whiskey on hand for him to enjoy his one drink with me.
I cherish the fact that my mom called him to help her when she wasn't well. If it was for a doctors app or to the hospital in the night. I was so grateful to grandpa that my mom had comfort in asking for his help. I do think they had a unspoken agreement to not speak a word of it to my sister and I. My grandpa had a wonderful smile and a infectious laugh :-)
Of course there was hunting but I'm more aware of the enjoyment he got out of fishing. I was the recipient of some of his wonderful catch!!
I picture a big gathering up there.....Grandma has been waiting, Aunt Joan and my Mom and Pa. There will be some great debates and lots of fishing. I love the thought that they are all together now. I love you Grandpa I will miss you and please give them one of those grandpa hugs that I have always appreciated and will miss so much.
