Velma and Pat were bff since childhood long before it became a thing. They enjoyed many fun times with their hubbies Ernie and George and could talk about their kids and grandkids all day long. It was my sixth birthday, my twin sister and I were in the backyard of our house on Gladstone Avenue. We did not have any aunts uncles or cousins in this country because my parents had immigrated from Canada alone. My parents quickly became fast friends with Velma and Ernie and they were like family to us. So on the morning of my sixth birthday, Velma came into the backyard and gave my twin sister and I a little box each wrapped in lovely paper. I opened it and slipped onto my finger a little pink ring. Velma told us it was our birthstone I was so thrilled that someone had remembered to give me a little birthday present. Then she made her famous birthday cake with marshmallow icing and to this day I can honestly say that was the best cake I’ve ever tasted! Rest in peace Velma. I loved you and there will be a place in my heart for you always. The world won’t be the same without you. Condolences to all the family I’m thinking of you at this sad time.
