I was shocked last week to hear that my good old friend Steve had passed away. When I went to Canada in 1990 to work for CARIS Steve was my digitising buddy for the Singapore Electronic Chart testbed and, as important, my guide to living in Canada. In Canada we spend a lot of time together both workwise and as friends. When visiting Steve (and Eveline) in Ottawa in 1991 we went canoeing on crotch lake in Ompah and we saw at night the Northen Lights, never to forget. After my return to Europe, when Steve would travel to Europe our house was a welcome stop-over (he loved eating Bossche Bollen see picture with my wife Marielle) and we met in many places in Europe during our work such as Hamburg (his favorite record buying city) and Monaco (where Rosie's bar was a good place for a drink:-)). I am very saddened in learning of Steve's passing. I have very fond memories of roaming around with him in places like Cadiz, Monaco, Copenhagen, and Helsinki to name a few. My deepest sympathies to his family.
